Setting Up a Server

This is a bit of a pain. Sending loving energy.

  • Install Ansys License Manager. Open it (it opens in your browser)

  • Click “Get System Hostid Name”

    • This page gives you your HOSTNAME and HOSTID which you’ll need in a second

  • Go to the Ansys Licensing Portal and sign in with your Northeastern email

  • Click “Active Entitlements” on the left and click “Add Server” at the top

    • fill in the pop up with the info from the license manager

  • Make sure the licenses you want are selected and the ones you do not want are unselected

    • Ansys Academic Research Mechanical and CFD (25 tasks) is the important one

  • Click “Save and Generate” at the top

  • A file should download. Move that file into C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\Shared Files\licensing\license_files

  • Search for Ansys License Settings in your start menu (should already be on your computer from when you installed Ansys)

    • Instead of just opening it, right click and click “Run as Administrator”

  • Enter “1055” as the port and your hostname as server 1. Click test. You should get a little green check mark

  • Click save. You should be able to see all the analysis systems you got a license for in Ansys now!
